Planned Projects

Wildlife Hospital

The purpose of the Wildlife Hospital section of the Indoor Nature Center is for clinical treatment and health maintenance of Georgia's indigenous wildlife.

All animals housed here at the Ellijay Wildlife Rehabilitation Sanctuary will be thoroughly and responsibly cared for without having to transport to other locations, further traumatizing the injured or sick animal.

The layout and design of the clinic, treatment, and storage areas has been accomplished with the professional assistance and consultation of Dr. Francis Cipullo, DVM of Ellijay, Georgia. He will be our in-house veterinarian and coordinator of all hospital policies and procedures.

Ancillary to the major clinic area are rooms for intensive care and recovery, incubation, hydrotherapy and exercise.

The Wildlife Hospital will be a formal training ground for veterinary technicians, in training at colleges and universities around the world, through an on-site accredited curriculum. Dr. Cipullo will have full oversight of the VetTechs program.

The financial savings of having this on-site facility are projected at $75,000 to $100,000 per year.

Educational Training Rooms

The purpose of the Educational Training Rooms section of the Indoor Nature Center is for teaching all of the many aspects of all that relates to Georgia's indigenous wildlife.

Our Mission here at the Ellijay Wildlife Rehabilitation Sanctuary is to teach the next generation about their environment as fundamental in preserving our World. It is our priority to teach children that all life plays a role in maintaining a balance in nature and how the consequences of nature's imbalance impacts mankind.

The educational areas are divided by movable walls to form resizable classrooms to accommodate different size groups— from the single family to the scout troop or school and church group.

Outside, areas have been designed to provide special classrooms in the natural environment that is experienced here at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Sanctuary. The non-threatening atmosphere is productive and conducive to learning and will give children an opportunity to fully enjoy their learning experience here.

The major benefit of having these classrooms in this facility is an ability to have a structured and interesting program designed to achieving our primary goal—teaching our children and caring for our wildlife.

Wildlife Library

The purpose of the Wildlife Library section of the Indoor Nature Center is for providing the resources necessary to properly teach, understand, and care for all that relates to Georgia's indigenous wildlife.

Our goal is to eventually have the most comprehensive resource center available anywhere dedicated to the Eastern Cougar— the most endangered species in America today.

The Wildlife Library will be housed on one end of the second floor of the Indoor Nature Center. It is designed to be a study and research area. Incorporated into this area will be a multimedia center, including on-line computers and audio/video media.

In order to be able to utilize all of our space here at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Sanctuary, all furniture and furnishings will be movable in order to achieve one large room, designed for use as a conference and/or seminar area, able to seat up to 150 people.

The major benefit of having the Wildlife Library in this facility is an ability to have resources available at all times to staff, students, and VetTechs to assist them in their need for information. This will further enhance our primary goal— teaching our children and caring for our wildlife.

Food Preparation and Storage

The purpose of the Food Preparation and Storage section of the Indoor Nature Center is for providing the capability necessary to properly prepare, feed, and provide proper nutrition for all of the different species and varieties of animals found here.

This area has been designed in consultation with Food and Beverage specialists in both the hospitality industry and in wildlife care industry.

The Food Preparation and Storage will be housed in the rear of the first floor of the Indoor Nature Center. It is designed to be readily accessible to all departments and areas of the Wildlife Rehabilitation Sanctuary. It is further designed to readily receive and handle large donations of foodstuffs.

The major benefit of having the Food Preparation and Storage area housed in this facility is the strategic location for service and the convenience that provides.

Reptile Display

The purpose of the Reptile Display section of the Indoor Nature Center is to exhibit and care for the indigenous reptile population of Georgia. Although not reptiles, this room will also house indigenous marine life and fish in specially prepared aquariums.

This room is environmentally controlled and maintained to proper temperature and humidity as required by different species.

The Reptile Display room will be housed on one end of the first floor of the Indoor Nature Center. It is designed to be a study and research area and will be created to maximize awareness of these species that are so often misunderstood and mistreated.

The financial savings of having the Reptile Display housed in this facility are enormous as the Indoor Nature Center will be built on the site of the existing Reptile Display. Incorporating it into the design of the Center will save the need for constructing a new building. The Indoor Nature Center will have the environment control equipment already installed thus eliminating the need for duplication of equipment needs.
